New Year, New Posts

Two weeks into the New Year, baseball fans all around are starting to gear up for the 2010 season.
In the weeks leading up to Opening Day, I will have posts regarding the Cubs 2010 projected finish, as well as projections about other teams in the division.
To read more great thoughts on the Cubs, check out [...]

Kenny Williams, White Sox Suck

In 2005, the Chicago White Sox brought a World Series home for the first time since 1917.  The team was then changed in 2006 as the Sox brought in Javy Vazquez and Jim Thome.  Kenny Williams, who is a horrible GM, is apparently still living in those times.
Andruw Jones, Omar Vizquel, Alex Rios and Juan [...]

Chris Otule Out For Season

Per Todd Rosiak of the Journal Sentinel, Marquette sophomore center Chris Otule has fractured his foot in practice Monday night and will miss the remainder of the year.
It’s a big blow to the Golden Eagles chances this year, but an even bigger blow to the 6′10” big man.
“We are extremely hurt for Chris,” coach Buzz [...]

Examining Andres Blanco

As the Cubs prepare for 2010, I feel that little has to be done.  The offense has a solid foundation with Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez, but lacked quality performances from other players.
The issue with guys like Geovany Soto, Ryan Theriot, Mike Fontenot, Kosuke Fukudome and Alfonso Soriano is more than just their offensive game. [...]

A Long Time Coming

This article can also be seen at marquettehoops.com.

March 22, 2009 will be a day Lazar Hayward never forgets.
With the Golden Eagles down two points and five seconds left, Hayward committed a crucial turnover. He crossed the end line while looking to inbound the ball, costingMarquette a final shot against Missouri.
The turnover devastated fans and alumni, but [...]

An old post that is still relevant

Our parents and grandparents have followed stats that shouldn’t be used in evaluating a hitter’s performance or evaluating a pitcher’s performance. Since Bill James put statistical analysis into baseball, these popular stats are now pointless, and new statistics are much better in predicting a season.
For my first example, I’m using RBI. Why is RBI a [...]

Steroids vs. Betting on Baseball

The title says it all – What do you feel is worse?  I never really thought about it until reading a Ryne Sandberg quote today about Pete Rose.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Pete Rose was a great baseball player.  He combined talent with grit – something that is very rare in today’s game. [...]

More Paul Sullivan Trash: Round 2

Let’s break down this “GAME ARTICLE” that Paul Sullivan wrote so eloquently… shall we?
It was a night of strange occurrences at Wrigley Field, Cubbie and otherwise.
What does that mean?  Cubbie?Ex-Cub LaTroy Hawkins was ejected in the middle of an Aramis Ramirez at-bat in the eighth inning. Milton Bradley, representing the winning run, was thrown [...]

Perception Issues: Cubs fans are stupid

Cubs fans are great.  But they’re incredibly inept at judging a player’s talent, as most fans can be.  We’re going to compare two players.  One would have an approval rating around 20% and one would have an approval rating around 85%.
My favorite book in the world is titled “The Book” by Tom Tango.  Rather than [...]
